Proportional-reasoning practice: solve proportions, simplify and complete equivalent ratios, find a percent of a number, find a percent of change, and convert, compare, and order fractions, decimals, and percents.

    Activity:

    Solving Proportions

Solve for x in a proportion (e.g. 3/4 = x/12) by cross-multiplication. The unknown can be any of the four terms; answers are whole numbers. Choose smaller or larger numbers.

Difficulty levels: Basic through larger numbers

    Equivalent Ratios

    Simplify a ratio to lowest terms (e.g. 12 : 18 → 2 : 3) or find the missing value in an equivalent ratio (e.g. 2 : 3 = ? : 12). Numeric practice in ratio notation.

Difficulty levels: Simplify and find the missing value

    Percent of a Number

Find a percent of a number (e.g. what is 25% of 80?). Choose benchmark percents, multiples of 10%, or any multiple of 5%, as numeric problems or word problems. Answers are always whole numbers.

Difficulty levels: Benchmark through any multiple of 5%

    Percent of Change

Find the percent of change (increase or decrease) from an old value to a new value (e.g. from 40 to 50 is a 25% increase). Choose benchmark percents, multiples of 10%, or any multiple of 5%.

Difficulty levels: Increase and decrease, benchmark through any multiple of 5%

    Fraction, Decimal, & Percent

Convert, compare, and order fractions, decimals, and percents. Covers common terminating equivalents.

    Difficulty levels: Common benchmark values
